Welcome to the Black Rigg Rapper website.

Rapper is a form of sword dancing which came from the mining villages and communities of Northumberland and County Durham during the nineteenth century.

Five dancers perform intricate figures while linked together by flexible rapper "swords", usually finishing with the swords linked together to form a lock, nut or star which is held aloft.

The natural environment for this type of dance is a pub, preferably with a good wooden floor and a range of fine ales.

Black Rigg Rapper are a mixed rapper dance team based in and around the North York Moors of North East England.

We practice on Tuesday evenings upstairs at The Winning Post in Redcar from 7.30pm.
